The ex-Soviet reactor build by Moscow for Iran might be a bust?
Some analysis from Amir Taheri about the fate of the Busher reactor in Iran give us all some food for thought. The main premise of his post I come away with is that the Russians knew they were building a two billion dollar boondoggle, likely to never work and be a huge risk considering the fact a large earthquake could cause a massive disaster, and were simply fleecing the Iranians whom did not really care how bad the reactor would end up being because they wanted to build the bomb and do so as fast as possible. Now that it looks like the reactor will likely never work, the Iranians are using the controversy to have the West come in and fix it for them, again so they can enrich weapon’s grade material in the end. The one inescapable fact that can also be gleaned here is that the Iranians are in this for the bomb and have been at it since the 1990’s, long before Bush, 9-11, Afghanistan, Iraq or any one of these other things the democrats want to tell us are the reason these evil people in the Middle East are up in arms about these days.
Personally I have very little confidence that the Iranians would not mind turning on this monster even if it is a huge risk. These guys are dictators and their people are just cattle. Heck, if you believe you are there to usher in the coming of the 12th Imam and then the end-of-times itself, do you think you will be worried about a few people dying after some nuclear accident? Especially since in your twisted mind they earn Paradise by dying for the cause anyway? And it already looks like the Iranians are playing the Europeans just right to get some kind of working reactor in the end too. Could this be why the Bush Admin has not been in a hurry to do anything about Iran? Too many “what ifs” or guesses here for my comfort, but the one constant is that eventually we will have to deal with Iran to stop its nuclear ambition. Passing the buck has not worked well for us in the past.
