Government take-overs, green machines, and excuse making for obvious failures

When Obama, helped by the demcorat controlled congress, bought out GM for their Union buddies with tax payer money masquerading as stimulus funding or TARP bailouts - that line is blurry - I warned that the result of this would be disastrous. I warned that all that a government takeover of a car manufacturing company would lead to was the forced adoption of a car that would not be liked, used expensive green technology that was meaningless in the grand scheme of things, and in the end would cost orders of magnitude more to purchase than one was getting for it. Of course, the left pretended that wouldn’t be the case, and that now that government was in charge of GM’s strategy and direction, they would put out a dream car that would do the imposable and also save the environment and planet all in one swoop. GM would go into the business of making green transportation, and with the evil entities usually blamed by the combustion engine-haters unable to thwart GM’s efforts because of government protection, they would finally succeed! All the deniers and doubters were finally going to be shown how great that whole collectivist green stuff really was. It looks like I was right. Let me rub it in some.

GENERAL MOTORS introduced America to the Chevrolet Volt at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show as a low-slung concept car that would someday be the future of motorized transportation. It would go 40 miles on battery power alone, promised G.M., after which it would create its own electricity with a gas engine. Three and a half years — and one government-assisted bankruptcy later — G.M. is bringing a Volt to market that makes good on those two promises. The problem is, well, everything else.

For starters, G.M.’s vision turned into a car that costs $41,000 before relevant tax breaks ... but after billions of dollars of government loans and grants for the Volt’s development and production. And instead of the sleek coupe of 2007, it looks suspiciously similar to a Toyota Prius. It also requires premium gasoline, seats only four people (the battery runs down the center of the car, preventing a rear bench) and has less head and leg room than the $17,000 Chevrolet Cruze, which is more or less the non-electric version of the Volt.

So this collectivist’s green dream car basically costs $41K and delivers for that hefty price tag nothing more than a $17K combustion engine car would? WTF? Maybe you should just go buy a Mercedes or some such other luxury car instead of this boondoggle. Talk about getting screwed twice. It is apparent that not only did we tax payers get reamed by these bastards, all so their union buddies could keep their gold plated bennies and jobs, but that they now expect people to pay an arm and a leg for something that’s not all that to begin with. Bravo NYT for coming clean on the obvious!

Of course, the NYT could not just point out the obvious inherent ideological failure caused by those that want to use the power of government to thwart the mechanics of real world, and leave it at that. Nope, they had to go make excuses about why this failure isn’t really the fault of the inherent stupidity in that ideology. Right after acknowledging that the Volt turned out to be exactly what we told you would end up happening, we get a mountain of excuses.

Unfortunately for this theory, G.M. was already committed to the Volt when it entered bankruptcy.

Well, DUH! Making stupid decisions like this one is PRECISELY why GM was on the verge of imploding. When you add on one dumb decision after another, you should go the way of the T-Rex. GM is the company that allowed its unions to negotiate those golden packages that were draining all their income. GM is the company that decided a car that costs $17K with a combustion engine would be a viable product that could make them money if they plopped in an expensive electric motor, only to then find out that at $41K, only stupid people or government agencies are going to ever buy this junk.

And the dumb doesn’t end there. There were some fun doozies like this one:

Nor did the government or G.M. decide to sell the Volt at a loss, which, paradoxically, might have been the best hope for making it profitable.

Forget the inherent flaw here that the financial loss that the NYT is pining for here will be incurred yet again by us tax payers. Is this dumb assertion based on that idiotic concept of selling something at a loss, and making the loss up on volume? I am intimately familiar with the concept that the “per unit cost” goes down with volume. But I find it laughable that there ever will be enough sales of this vehicle to make that the case. And want to see the thing that gave me the biggest laugh?

If G.M. were honest, it would market the car as a personal donation for, and vote of confidence in, the auto bailout. Unfortunately, that’s not the kind of cross-branding that will make the Volt a runaway success.

What’s honest about an attempt to pretend GM was pushing this piece of crap to consumers to thank them for a bailout at the tax payer’s expense? WTF? In fact, if GM was honest it would be admitting this boondoggle is what you get when you marry government with business. Pretzel much? And I have always expected the combination of “GM’s Volt” and “runaway success” in the same sentence to also include something like “no way in hell” or “here comes a lame joke”. This is sad, but don’t worry. GM’s next success will be an $80K electric car that can be bought with a combustion engine for $25K! That’s a step in the right direction.

UPDATE: I think the Volt, in a nut shell, is the perfect illustration of the green world the left so pines for: you will pay oodles more, get a lot less in return for it, making some government agency more powerful in the process, and think this was somehow a good thing. Basically it illustrates the whole concept of “failure is a great success” that seems to be the MO of the left, by applying it to the real world in a practical manner.

Climategate deniers are lying.

The AGW cultists have recently been up in arms about how an “independent review” of the Climategate scandal cleared the cultist, finding no evidence to question the “rigor and honesty” of scientists involved. Of course, as was obvious to anyone but the cultists, there wasn’t anything independent, and nothing much other than a political whitewash to continue to lend credibility to, and defend, the indefensible and incredible , as this WSJ article clearly points out.

The problem:

Last November there was a world-wide outcry when a trove of emails were released suggesting some of the world’s leading climate scientists engaged in professional misconduct, data manipulation and jiggering of both the scientific literature and climatic data to paint what scientist Keith Briffa called “a nice, tidy story” of climate history. The scandal became known as Climategate.

The setup:

Now a supposedly independent review of the evidence says, in effect, “nothing to see here.” Last week “The Independent Climate Change E-mails Review,” commissioned and paid for by the University of East Anglia, exonerated the University of East Anglia. The review committee was chaired by Sir Muir Russell, former vice chancellor at the University of Glasgow.

Mr. Russell took pains to present his committee, which consisted of four other academics, as independent. He told the Times of London that “Given the nature of the allegations it is right that someone who has no links to either the university or the climate science community looks at the evidence and makes recommendations based on what they find.”

The facts:

No links? One of the panel’s four members, Prof. Geoffrey Boulton, was on the faculty of East Anglia’s School of Environmental Sciences for 18 years. At the beginning of his tenure, the Climatic Research Unit (CRU)—the source of the Climategate emails—was established in Mr. Boulton’s school at East Anglia. Last December, Mr. Boulton signed a petition declaring that the scientists who established the global climate records at East Anglia “adhere to the highest levels of professional integrity.”

Heh, not much cause for all that “independent review” claim after this information about the ties of one of the panelists is gleaned, huh? The other 3 aren’t much better either, but we should seriously dispense with the pretense that this review was anything but an inside hack job to cover for the cult. There is big money here and the governments that want to control people’s lives and energy are quite willing to go along with the lies if it helps them get there. And those other “independent review”?

This purportedly independent review comes on the heels of two others—one by the University of East Anglia itself and the other by Penn State University, both completed in the spring, concerning its own employee, Prof. Michael Mann. Mr. Mann was one of the Climategate principals who proposed a plan, which was clearly laid out in emails whose veracity Mr. Mann has not challenged, to destroy a scientific journal that dared to publish three papers with which he and his East Anglia friends disagreed. These two reviews also saw no evil. For example, Penn State “determined that Dr. Michael E. Mann did not engage in, nor did he participate in, directly or indirectly, any actions that seriously deviated from accepted practices within the academic community.”

This is like having the child molester investigate the accusations made against him, and say that the video showing him molesting the kid exonerates him of the charge because in his “independent” analysis it doesn’t look like he is doing anything wrong. Nobody interested in the truth should take that defense seriously. Same applies to the defense and supposed exoneration of those that fabricated and manipulated data and supporting systems to model their claims, to push an agenda, concealed that agenda behind a veneer of legitimacy by consensus science, and then investigated themselves and gave themselves a slap on the wrist but continue to claim that the whole house of cards is on solid foundations and still to be taken seriously.

It’s impossible to find anything wrong if you really aren’t looking.

That’s the magic quote right there. Evidence of criminal intent and absolutely unscientific behavior?

In a famous email of May 29, 2008, Phil Jones, director of East Anglia’s CRU, wrote to Mr. Mann, under the subject line “IPCC & FOI,” “Can you delete any emails you may have had with Keith [Briffa] re AR4 [the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report]? Keith will do likewise . . . can you also email Gene [Wahl, an employee of the U.S. Department of Commerce] to do the same . . . We will be getting Caspar [Amman, of the U.S. National Center for Atmospheric Research] to do likewise.”

Mr. Jones emailed later that he had “deleted loads of emails” so that anyone who might bring a Freedom of Information Act request would get very little. According to New Scientist writer Fred Pearce, “Russell and his team never asked Jones or his colleagues whether they had actually done this.”

The Russell report states that “On the allegation of withholding temperature data, we find that the CRU was not in a position to withhold access to such data.” Really? Here’s what CRU director Jones wrote to Australian scientist Warrick Hughes in February 2005: “We have 25 years or so invested in the work. Why should I make the data available to you, when your aim is to try and find something wrong with it[?]”

Why should that matter? These guys are pure, and their agenda is good! They are trying to better the world. Save it from the capitalist pigs. Social justice and redistribution of wealth through an all knowing governmental entity. After all, the people opposing the church of AGW’s findings and “science”, are in it for the money!

Readers of both earlier reports need to know that both institutions receive tens of millions in federal global warming research funding (which can be confirmed by perusing the grant histories of Messrs. Jones or Mann, compiled from public sources, that are available online at freerepublic.com). Any admission of substantial scientific misbehavior would likely result in a significant loss of funding.

Heh, but only the people getting money form those evil bastards that oppose the church of AGW, should not be taken seriously. That the church itself is making billions, and proponents and supporters of this apocalyptic gospel stand to make trillions, drastically expand the powers of government if not outright create that one-world collectivist government the UN and the leftists so pine for, to control the lives of peasants through the regulation of the availability of energy and transportation, stand to gain big-time, should simply be ignored.

Of course, Mr. Russell didn’t look to see if the ugly pressure tactics discussed in the Climategate emails had any consequences. That’s because they only interviewed CRU people, not the people whom they had trashed.

This sort of stuff is referred to as an echo chamber. I have been caught cheating? Ask my fellow cheats to prove that I did so! Yeah, really. Independent review my ass.

Keeping his promise…

Well, considering how many promises he has broken so far and how many more look like they will have to be broken to keep the scam alive, I feel I should give Obama his props for keeping at least one promise. When he told Joe the Plumber that he believed that the wealth should be spread around, he seems to have meant it. And the latest statistics seem to back his promise to do so up. Of course there is always a little twist, and when he spoke about spreading the wealth… Well don’t take it from me, here is the article’s take on it:

Paychecks from private business shrank to their smallest share of personal income in U.S. history during the first quarter of this year, a USA TODAY analysis of government data finds. At the same time, government-provided benefits — from Social Security, unemployment insurance, food stamps and other programs — rose to a record high during the first three months of 2010. Those records reflect a long-term trend accelerated by the recession and the federal stimulus program to counteract the downturn. The result is a major shift in the source of personal income from private wages to government programs.

Other than the fact I get irked whenever the MSM refers to that government scam that funneled close to a trillion of our tax payer dollars to demcorat operatives & agents, past and future donors, friends and entities, and finally to the demcorat politician’s campaign chests, to “stimulate” their chances come the 2010 elections, as a “federal stimulus program”, I would say that they got the gist of what this new breed of statist collectivists are all about down pat. We are being led by the same kind of “intelligencia” groups that make up your usual liberal arts college academia, and it is not a coincidence that they feel the solution to all problems is a government led by them, that micromanages and relies on central planning and direct or indirect ownership & control of all aspects of the economy, to achieve their socialist Utopia. It’s no wonder then that the loathed private industry is being sucked dry while government spending grows drastically. It’s also no surprise to those of us that understand how economics work in the real world, that this practice is causing exactly the opposite effect these know-nothing nincompoops with overinflated egos and delusions of their own importance and wisdom thought it would, and wrecking our economy. Literally government is now in the business of picking winners & losers, not just as far as individuals go, but which businesses make it, what technologies or practices are adopted or avoided, and doing so not with any kind of scientific rigor or logic – they might claim otherwise but that’s just bull, and the demcorats are the ones that get to choose them. For a small fee, of course.
image

The irony is that at a time when the socialist nanny state is clearly failing in Europe, our politicians are breaking all records recreating the same failed economic model in our country. And while the collectivists now running the US are downplaying the whole European crisis and unavoidable collapse of the whole socialist nanny state – wealth redistribution without the creation of new wealth, something the socialist state excels at, only works for so long, after all -the Chinese are worrying. The statists are taking us in the wrong direction. In their ever expanding need for cash, these demcorats are already looking at such “solutions” as taking over everyone that isn’t working for government’s retirement funds. Props to Obama, however, for keeping a promise....

You can’t sell them, but government can take it…

You or I don’t have the right to sell our organs (or parts of them), but in a brilliant display of what the progressives stand for, New York State Assemblyman Richard Brodsky - a demcorat, and a damned liberal one while you are at it since camouflages his party affiliation - now wants to use the power of government to take them. You can’t make this shit up. These morons not only balk at anyone proposing people be allowed to decide if they want to sell their organs – they will take advantage of the poor! – but accuse such people of being motivated by evil greed. WTF is the motivation that drives this kind of pond scum to think government can then simply take them? Even if I am dead they are mine and my families, not the governments! Is this idiotic idea more logical devolution of where Obamacare is taking us all to?

X-37B makes its first flight

Our military knows how important our satellites are to their operations. Any country that goes to war with the formidable US military would be in a world of hurt. That is, unless they can cripple the technological advantages we have. And the quickest way to do so is to destroy enough of our satellites to fail both the GPS and the communications capabilities that our military hardware relies on to do its job well. The Chinese know they can not take the US head on. Let’s not kid around. China has ambitions to global domination, and they know the road to that requires them to eventually deal with the US military. They might choose to simply wait it out and hope 5 decades from now their economic advantages, the rapid decline of the US as the collectivists destroy anything and everything that made it exceptional, and their program to steal any and all military or industrial secrets without even the slightest bother to conceal that’s their agenda, to come together and deliver onto them that superior military capability, but my bet is that the fight will come sooner than later. The Chinese seem to feel the same way because for a while now their strategy has been to explore and build ways to come at us by asymmetrical means. From bringing down the internet to using ballistic missiles as carrier killers, they are looking at ways to overcome the technological advantage of our military, and score a David vs. Goliath kind of kill. And they are relying heavily on a strategy that attacks our space based infrastructure and destroy our technological advantage in the quickest and most effective way. So it is good to see that our military, despite the pap from the usual idiots that think the way to keep the hungry wolf at bay is to bare your throat to it in a gesture of submission, are taking the space threat seriously and acting upon it.

The military is fast moving to the use of UAVs. It should come as no surprise that an UAV would be just as good an option to have in space. The ability to quickly replace satellites or even protect ones in space while destroying enemy satellites or enemy kill vehicles, in order to provide continuity on the modern battlefield are key to deterring aggressive opponents. If you know your strategy to deny your enemy space and technology isn’t going to work, even a lunatic is going to think twice about starting a conflict that hinges on an asymmetrical attack reducing your enemy’s ability to take your forces out and give you a chance to win a fight you otherwise would not. If anything, this stuff will deter adventurism.

Collectivist global government fantasy wont die yet..

If you still doubt that the collectivists in government invented AGW to screw us over and take more of our money, check out the State Department’sredolent report blaming man unequivocally for this piece of collectivist fiction.

WASHINGTON, April 19 (Reuters) - The United States released a new draft report on climate change on Monday, one week before the expected unveiling of a compromise U.S. Senate bill that aims to curb heat-trapping greenhouse emissions.

The report, a draft of the Fifth U.S. Climate Action Report that will be sent to the United Nations, says bluntly: “Global warming is unequivocal and primarily human-induced ... Global temperature has increased over the past 50 years. This observed increase is due primarily to human-induced emissions of heat-trapping gases.”

Without action to stop them, climate-warming greenhouse gas emissions will rise over 8,000 megatonnes by mid-century, the draft said. By adopting measures detailed in a bill passed last year by the U.S. House of Representatives, these emissions will drop beneath 2,000 megatonnes. They’re now about 6,500 megatonnes. The United Nations measures greenhouse gas emissions in megatonnes, or million metric tons.

The effects of climate change are already evident, the draft said: warming air and oceans, vanishing mountain glaciers, thawing permafrost, signs of instability in the ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica and rising sea levels.

This bull isn’t accidental. The left, despite the obvious unmasking of this scam and the fact practically every sane person now knows this was just kleptokratic leftist predictions of doom & gloom in order to help them force their fantasies on an unwilling public, our own government continues to pretend like this stuff is real and settled.

These crooks are shameless. And guess which masters they are serving? No, don’t the proof is right in the report’s purpose:

The State Department report will ultimately go to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change; previous U.S. reports to this body were in 1994, 1997, 2002 and 2007.

Screw the lot of them. A plague on them all. The agenda is to control our lives by controlling our access to resources as well as curtailing our mobility. If you are too worried about staying warm or cold and can’t afford your own transportation, government can control you better. Be afraid of these bastards.

Yet another one bites the dust…

So now it looks like the drastically rising oceans, the apocalyptic end game the AGW church has warned us would happen if we refused to accept the collectivist government takeover of our freedoms and cash, was also, erm, exaggerated?

Scientists have been forced to withdraw a study on projected sea level rise due to global warming after finding mistakes that undermined the findings. The study, published in 2009 in Nature Geoscience, one of the top journals in its field, confirmed the conclusions of the 2007 report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). It used data over the last 22,000 years to predict that sea level would rise by between 7cm and 82cm by the end of the century.

At the time, Mark Siddall, from the Earth Sciences Department at the University of Bristol, said the study ”strengthens the confidence with which one may interpret the IPCC results”. The IPCC said that sea level would probably rise by 18cm-59cm by 2100, though stressed this was based on incomplete information about ice sheet melting and that the true rise could be higher.

Many scientists criticised the IPCC approach as too conservative, and several papers since have suggested that sea level could rise more. Martin Vermeer of the Helsinki University of Technology, Finland and Stefan Rahmstorf of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany published a study in Decemberthat projected a rise of 0.75m to 1.9m by 2100.

OK, so now we are told that they are unsure of the rise. That’s bull of course because what was likely found is that they have no science to prove this idiotic claim. So now even the threat of Waterworld is gone? No melting glaciers, no disappearing North Pole or ice in the Himalayas, no oceans rising… WTF? What’s left? What’s the impending catstrophe that should scare us all into letting them take away our freedoms and cash in return for, well nothing but an overarching government that has control of every aspects of our lives by limiting our access to energy and controlling our purchase power?

All the fear mongering we used to say was bunk and based on bunk science, is now proven as bunk. That’s why it was retracted. Asked to prove with science their claims, one by one, they are being retracted, or drastically revised, to a point that the end result is a statistical insignificance. And yet, the defenders of the AGW cult are still hard at work trying to make not only like they still have the science behind them, but that the onus is on the “deniers” to disprove the AGW claims, even though now it is a given that the underlying data, methodology, and the projected damage all are outright falsehoods or exaggerations. Even worse, people are starting to see that the real big money influences were not from the people that the AGW cultists demonized, but by the very priests of the AGW cult, which have all made millions, and stood to make billions more, scamming us all.

If the AGW watermelon cultists had any sense, they would drop this lost cause and go invent the next big lie they are going to glom on to try and convince us to let them create their global wealth redistributing collectivist government for the elites by. Of course they will not. They will continue to try and lie & bluff their way through this – after all, they have a complacent and willing media that has so far ignored the scandalous behavior by them – and in the process make sure we all know this is a fanatical cult based more on faith than any kind of science.

Another drop in the bucket

While I do not want to belittle the fact that Obama is pushing for nuclear energy, I find the much touted news that he is pushing for 2 new nuke plants is just a token - one that they can easily take away later when they have gotten what they want: more massive and horribly destructive taxes on all of us - and meaningless in the grand scheme of things. It’s a joke. And insult. The Chinese are building over 120 new reactors in the next decade. That’s commitment to nuclear energy. 2 Plants are not going to add any significant power to the already desperate energy situation we face. Especially since my bet is that they will pull the plug on them anyway later, just like they did with Yucca Mountain. I hope the republicans see through this slight of hand and do not buck on their stance to kill that “Cap and Tax” bill. Remember that when government controls energy through prices they can control the peasants…

Oh, damn…..

It has not been good for the cult of AGW this last couple of months. The defenders of the indefensible have been hard at work doing damage control. The usual apologists and crazies are trying hard to convince us that even if it was all fake, we should still let them do their thing - kind of like the fake but true TANG incident - because if they don’t get what we want we will be in big trouble. A step down from their previous claims we would all be living in a Waterworld, well those of us that survived the coming cataclysms would, but still much ado about nothing. Now they are being dealt another big bad blow.

The university at the centre of the climate change row over stolen e-mails broke the law by refusing to hand over its raw data for public scrutiny. The University of East Anglia breached the Freedom of Information Act by refusing to comply with requests for data concerning claims by its scientists that man-made emissions were causing global warming.

The Information Commissioner’s Office decided that UEA failed in its duties under the Act but said that it could not prosecute those involved because the complaint was made too late, The Times has learnt. The ICO is now seeking to change the law to allow prosecutions if a complaint is made more than six months after a breach. The stolen e-mails , revealed on the eve of the Copenhagen summit, showed how the university’s Climatic Research Unit attempted to thwart requests for scientific data and other information, and suggest that senior figures at the university were involved in decisions to refuse the requests. It is not known who stole the e-mails.

I mean, if the science was so clear cut and settled, why would you need to do stuff like this? Really? The AGW cult has done more damage to real scientific progress than anyone has yet understood. They are the ones that cried wolf. If the real wolf comes, most people will be too skeptical to even bother. I guess this is offset by the many and ever entertaining jokes we can tell at the expense of those that fell for this crap, and those that still continue to think there might be one once of truth to this bullshit. My fondest wish is that people can now actually do scientific research on warming. I am dying to be vindicated on the fact that the warming cycle is tied to solar activity.

Not going to hear this from, or see this on, the MSM

It looks like our AGW cultists have been skewered yet again. It seems that they have been caught selectively skewing the data to make their case yet again.

Call it the mystery of the missing thermometers. Two months after “climategate” cast doubt on some of the science behind global warming, new questions are being raised about the reliability of a key temperature database, used by the United Nations and climate change scientists as proof of recent planetary warming. Two American researchers allege that U.S. government scientists have skewed global temperature trends by ignoring readings from thousands of local weather stations around the world, particularly those in colder altitudes and more northerly latitudes, such as Canada. In the 1970s, nearly 600 Canadian weather stations fed surface temperature readings into a global database assembled by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Today, NOAA only collects data from 35 stations across Canada. Worse, only one station—at Eureka on Ellesmere Island—is now used by NOAA as a temperature gauge for all Canadian territory above the Arctic Circle.

How are we to trust any of this data, especially the historical patern, when they are jury rigging the measurement locations to be in warmer places? Should it really surprise anyone that when you exlude those pesky locations that are colder and shift the measurements to places that are warmer, that you end up with data that shows warming? Remember that pharma companies that get caught doing this exact kind of things during their drug trails end up in court, and people go to jail. The same would happen to people rigging security trading information in order to push the stocks they wanted. Even the Cheerios manufacturer was smacked hard because they could not conclusively make the claim their product lowered colesterol.  Yet we have governments the world over, with an agenda that will cost us citizens trillions of dollars and result ins some real hurt for the non-elite that stand to profit obscenly from this scam, not just turning a blind eye to this, but actually pushing it.

Neither agency responded to a request for comment Wednesday from Canwest News Service. However Hanson did issue a public statement on the matter earlier this week. “NASA has not been involved in any manipulation of climate data used in the annual GISS global temperature analysis,” he said. “The agency is confident of the quality of this data and stands by previous scientifically-based conclusions regarding global temperatures.”

That’s good enough for me! Well not.

In addition to the allegations against NOAA and GISS, climate scientists are also dealing with the embarrassment this week of the false glacier-melt warning contained in the 2007 report of the UN Panel on Climate Change. That report said Himalayan glaciers are likely to disappear within three decades if current rates of melting continue. This week, however, the panel admitted there is no scientific evidence to support such a claim.

Their house of cards is being dimsantelled piecemeal, but it is falling apart. They continue to spin and lump this bull with real problems in the hopes of keeping the momentum, but the truth is coming out, and it looks like too many people were either just had or part of a massive conspiracy to convince us to hand over our freedoms to a world government intent on running a wealth redistribution scam that would make the seleted elite stinking rich.

Al Gore was not available for comments. He was to busy raking in as much money as he could before this thing went south and he was forced to look for a new scam to push for the same agenda.

Surprise! Home sales drop drastically..

In another example of why Keynesian economics don’t work worth shit in the long term, we find out that, just like what happened with the “Cash for Clunkers” program, there was a drastic drop in home sales after the $8,000 tax credit expired.

WASHINGTON (AP)—Sales of previously occupied homes took the largest monthly drop in more than 40 years last month, sinking more dramatically than expected after lawmakers gave buyers additional time to use a tax credit. The report reflects a sharp drop in demand after buyers stopped scrambling to qualify for a tax credit of up to $8,000 for first-time homeowners. It had been due to expire on Nov. 30. But Congress extended the deadline until April 30 and expanded it with a new $6,500 credit for existing homeowners who move.

“It’s ‘exit stage left’ for first-time homebuyers,” wrote Guy LeBas, an analyst with Janney Montgomery Scott. December’s sales fell 16.7 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.45 million, from an unchanged pace of 6.54 million in November, the National Association of Realtors said Monday. Sales had been expected to fall by about 10 percent, according to economists surveyed by Thomson Reuters.

What is surprising to me is the media’s and left’s ability to connect the dots and realize this result was a given. Did they miss the massive slump that car manufacturers are now in after the “Cash for Clunkers” program ended? I know they tried to spin that story too, and that they are no longer reporting on that continued slump, but the writing was easy to see. Basic human nature 101, people. While there was an incentive to behave a certain way, people did it. Once that incentive went away, behavior changed. At the risk of being repetitive, that’s human nature. Why do the collectivists have such a hard time with this concept? Reward people for a certain behavior, or punish them for not doing it, and people will conform. The left knows this. That’s why they want gas to be over $4 a gallon and all energy to be expensive. When we have less freedom to move around, they can control us better.

Anyway, the best piece of this moronic article?

“We do not believe it is fair to consider this a double dip in the housing market,” Michelle Meyer, an economist with Barclays Capital, wrote last week. “The recovery is still under way, but hitting some bumps in the road.”

Yeah, sure! Except for the people without jobs. The people with jobs that still can’t make ends meet, and soon will have less income or purchase power due to a bunch of corrupt and stupid collectivist politicians. And the private sector in general. Otherwise, things are looking good....

And thus it begins anon

Well, with the entire AGW ClimateGate scandal wrecking the collectivist’s global world government agenda, and the coldest winter in a real long time rearing it’s ugly head, killing people in Europe, and people, citrus, and tropical farmed fish in the Southern US, even the UN is now forced to switch gears, admit there now is cooling, and even point to the possibility of a coming mini ice age! Soon they will blame man for that problem (maybe even try to convince us that CO2 is behind it all), tell us we need to allow them to form a global government to redistribute wealth and restrict our freedoms, while they fly in private jets to special functions where they eat caviar, drink champagne, and discuss our impending doom, and threaten us with ice world otherwise. After all, the calamity is just the means to an end. In the mean time we are still being promised more of the same tripe from the same idiots with the same agenda. One would be inclined to believe we were spared at least one royal screwing by whatever divine entity chose to derail these collectivists and their plans. Maybe Gaia got tired of all the stupidty and evil done in her name? Heh!

News potpourri

Our president has received and signed a 1.1 trillion spending bill, and I am sure most people have not heard anything about the bill. Here are some details:

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama has signed into law a $1.1 trillion bill that increases the budgets in many areas of the government by about 10 percent, including health, law enforcement and veterans’ programs. Obama signed the bill privately at the White House on Wednesday after receiving the bill from Congress on Sunday. The bill lumps together six of the 12 annual appropriations bills for the 2010 budget year that began Oct. 1.

So this is signed in secret, increases government spending on itself by 10%, at a time when the economy is in chaos, the people are hurting bad, unemployment is again going up, government has to do things like borrow close to $300 billion more because we already are over the limit on our spending for next year. And to top this all off, the collectivist crooks are trying real hard to make up their own version of reality with the ludicrous, ridiculous, and odorous claim that their government takeover of the healthcare decision making process and finances plan that under the best of circumstances will add a minimum of $2 trillion dollars to our already astronomically expanding debt, is actually needed to prevent healthcare costs from breaking the bank! Seriously, do they have no shame? In the mean time we find out that these idiots till think government spending is the solution to unemployment. Tax cuts? Never! That crap is evil. Of course we know tax cuts actually spurred growth, and had the government spending not gone up faster than that growth, things would have been good, while this collectivist government spending stuff has never worked to do anything but drag out recessions. Maybe these losers get their ideas from eating stuff from this place? Americans are wising up to the scam run by these bastards though.

In the mean time the cultists gathering in Copenhagen is providing a platform for the worst of the worse. The clergy continues to pretend their house of cards isn’t coming down and on flames, even as more proof comes out that the game is rigged. And the worlds biggest polluter tells the gang of nuts to take a long walk off a short pier. Don’t the peasants know that Waterworld is coming if we do not bow down to Gaia and let the church of AGW run amok with their grand scheme? the Pope of the church of AGW has predicted it! Don’t worry though. If this thing blows up as spectacularly as Pinatubo did back when, it will spew so much junk into the atmosphere - comparable to decades of man doing its worst possible - that we will again see a 1 degree temperature drop world wide.

If this stuff didn’t hurt so much, it would all be funny.

If they wanted to create jobs, wean us off oil, and help the planet…

We would be drilling like mad for this stuff:

Just a few years ago, the industry didn’t have the technology to unlock these reserves. But thanks to advances in horizontal drilling and methods of fracturing rock with high-pressure blasts of water, sand and chemicals, vast gas reserves in the United States are suddenly within reach. As a result, said BP chief executive Tony Hayward, “the picture has changed dramatically.” “The United States is sitting on over 100 years of gas supply at the current rates of consumption,” he said. Because natural gas emits half the greenhouse gases of coal, he added, that “provides the United States with a unique opportunity to address concerns about energy security and climate change.”

Recoverable U.S. gas reserves could now be bigger than the immense gas reserves of Russia, some experts say. The Marcellus shale formation, stretching across swaths of Pennsylvania, New York and West Virginia, has enough gas to meet the entire nation’s needs for at least 14 years, according to an estimate by two Pennsylvania State University experts. Just in Broome County, N.Y., where Fitzsimmons lives, shale gas development could create $15 billion in economic activity, according to consultants hired by the county.

Of course Gore and the donkeys are not going to get rich shilling for this stuff, so I doubt there will be much enthusiasm from the usual suspects for this, just like their isn’t any for drilling for our own oil. But the even better argument to be made for why we should do this is:

With new supplies, the country will be less vulnerable to disruptions from Gulf Coast hurricanes and need to rely less on imports. Already, deliveries of liquefied natural gas from places such as Qatar, Nigeria and Trinidad are down 58 percent in 2008, idling costly U.S. terminals.

Not to mention that we can get much less oil imported if we switch to using gas. Maybe all of what we get from such hell holes as Venezuela or exporters in the ME. Of course the Luddites also had comments to add:

But the prospect of widespread shale gas drilling is also driving wedges in the environmental community. Many environmentalists have sounded alarms about the chemicals that drillers use to fracture the rock and the danger of natural gas or other substances contaminating water supplies.

So what then? Nuclear energy? Because practically everything else they push as alternative sources is junk and unable to produce the energy we need now, let alone in the future. Or is the agenda to make all of us - because they certainly are not going to give up their perks or energy usage from the easy to glean facts - live like people did in the 1800s? It isn’t like the bloated government bureaucracy hasn’t put strict rules in place for these operations that would prevent or drastically reduce any environmental kind of impact. They trust the government to run healthcare but not to supervise this? Heh.
