Freakshow going on
If you had any doubt that Iran’s grabbing of the British troops was done so they could coerce the West into abandoning opposition to their ambitions of becoming a regional power - a nuclear one at it- you need to look no further than this response from the Iranians. What Iran did amounts to an act of war. Period. But the Iranians know the West will do nothing and they are demanding the British admit they were in the wrong, even when it is obvious that this was a staged ambush; embarrassing the UK and the EU by pointing out how hollow any threat of military action against Iran is if they refuse to back off their nuclear ambitions, since they can’t even effectively deter something like this, is the object here. And they are succeeding. All the UK is left with is begging the UN to do something. And we all know how useless the UN is unless meaning less talk or sexual crimes against children is involved. In the mean time, the Iranians succeeded to again raise the price of oil which until recently had been holding at much lower numbers than the Iranians wanted. So now they get to embarrass the West and show how weak they are and make a ton of cash of the resulting tension. And they will do this kind of stuff again and again because that is what criminals do. Can you imagine what they would be doing if they had the cover of nuclear weapons? Think about that.
The only people taking this seriously seems to be those in the WH which are now building up forces in the area and maneuvering to show force. But this is just a show of force. When the 2 aircraft carriers are pulled out of the gulf - aircraft carriers in a confined space like the gulf make for much easier targets and would require a massive effort to protect - you can be certain that the show of force has moved to the use of force phase. Have no doubt about it. It will take force to bring down the current Iranian leadership. And if it is not done, they will eventually end up armed with nukes and making scenes like this a daily occurrence as they destabilize the entire planet. And eventually we will have to fight them, unless we decide to surrender of course, on their terms.
But hey, no blood for oil and all of that. After all, we have people like Rosie O’Donnell, and she is not alone here, now claiming this incident is just like the “Gulf of Ton Kin” incident - a manufactured event where a democrat president claimed North Vietnamese had fired on a US ship in order to justify a military response - and that we are really the bad guys behind it. Mind you I know people like O’Donnell are ignorant idiots with not an iota of historical sense, but the nut crowd will all believe this kind of conspiracy theory. After all the evil Bushies want to go to war with Iran! I guess Iran being the perpetrator and showing the world their captured hostages, like the faked moon landings, are all made up. I am sure any time now Iran will send someone to the UN to prove they hold nobody hostage or that the British put their troops in harms way on purpose! Still want the party that is home for people that hate their own country so much they are willing to create this kind of kooky conspiracy theories to make it look bad in power? I do not.
In the mean time our patriotic democrats, both in the Senate and the House, continue to show their support for our conflict in the ME with acts like this one and this one. After all, a nuclear armed Iran and a ME plunged into a greater war with the West, as Iran has pointed out it wants to do, is not as important as sticking it to evil Bush and winning the coming elections. Some of them get it, but the majority of them either does not or doesn’t give a damn about the American people when it comes to getting themselves in power. How scary can it get?

VETO ME PLEASE!
If ever there was a bill in need a of a Presidential Veto it is this piece of garbage. Not only is it loaded with useless pork from the very party that made a campaign issue out of pork spending by the party previously in charge, oh how the donkeys rubbed this in and talked about being responsible, all there to buy votes it would otherwise never get, but it puts an artificial deadline for pulling troops out of Iraq. In short it tells us that democrats want to make sure that we lose and then cut & run from Iraq in August 2008, right before the elections. Please Mr. President. Show that you have a pair and send this back to Pelosi to do the right way. Any of you idiots still want to pretend that your side supports the troops and are not being downright unpatriotic? I mean you are doing everything you can to guarantee failure in Iraq so you can stick it to Bush and continue to pretend your ideological idiocy about pacifism makes sense. Screw that. Let the MSM claim Pelosi scored a victory and ignore the fact this is a guaranteed effort to undermine the troops that are seeing big succes with the current surge. Then squash it and hear the lamentation of these women.

About the costs of the Iraqi war..
One of the latest arguments from the left, which has gone out of its way to pretend to have fiscal restraints and won big in 2006 claiming they would be more fiscally responsible but showed their true colors as soon as they were back in power as the pork spending on this bill intended to undermine our troops clearly shows, is about the cost of the war in Iraq. My usual answer is to ask what the cost of not fighting Islamofascism and of changing the ME will be to us down the line, but this StrategyPage article also does a real good job of really breaking down the cost vs. today’s economic reality:
Even after adjusting for inflation, the war on terror has cost more than the Korean or Vietnam War. However, World War II is still Americas most expensive war, at over two trillion dollars. But because the U.S. economy is so much larger, the war has been a much smaller burden on the economy. War costs are currently about one percent of GDP a year, compared to 14 percent during the peak years of the Vietnam war, nine percent during the Korean war, and nearly fifty percent during World War II.
The war costs are about 1% of our GDP. Compare that to what previous wars cost us as mentioned above, and you see that the cries from those that claim to worry about the cost of this war is nothing but more of the same anti-war propaganda. Of course the left which has been claiming to support our troops but not their cause has never liked the military and thinks it is all money thrown down the drain anyway. But we can not ignore the cost of not fighting this conflict. The Islamofascists which are gaining ever more traction and power, with Iran leading the charge, want this conflict with the West. In their twisted minds the fact that they are not superior to the West while they all claim to believe their religion & society is superior, has forced them to conclude that the only answer is to drag the West down to a level below theirs through conflict. Islamify or die! Emboldened by our own wishy-washy responses they now think that this global conflict is inevitable and that they will win too. They are willing to do what it takes, killing their own people, children, women, and anyone that stands in their way too accomplish this.
What is the cost of seeing our civilization dragged into a global war where WMDs will likely kill tens if not hundreds of millions of people? Of course the left will tell you this is all made up, and that if we just got rid of that pesky Jewish state in the ME & bowed to their other demands, respected their cultural differences and gave up our own so to speak, they would leave us be. I am not buying that. They have proven that they will not compromise. Personally I would prefer to spend money on our troops which provide us a service of incalculable value instead of on socialist programs to help people that continue to rely on government to cover for their mistakes and lack of responsibility, the very thing that gives the left political power, any day. If we are going to complain about the cost of keeping our civilization, we might as well give up now. But then again, the arguments about the cost have nothing to do with the actual cost now do they?

Not gone..
I know it has been a long time since I posted anything. Between work and other obligations I have been real busy. And I have also not felt compelled to post much because it all seems to be more of the same. Then again, today after reading this article by Clarence Page, I was left baffled how he concluded it by claiming that maybe Affirmative Action has gone wrong because it only looks at skin color. See his premise, and bone of contention, seems to be that black immigrants from Africa, the Caribbean, or South America are disproportionately getting into colleges & universities and graduating in record numbers. From his own article:
In a side-by-side comparison of 2000 census data by sociologists including John R. Logan at the State University of New York, Albany, black immigrants from Africa averaged the highest educational attainment of any population group in the country, including whites and Asians.
For example, 43.8 percent of African immigrants had earned a college degree, compared with 42.5 of Asian-Americans, 28.9 percent of immigrants from Europe, Russia and Canada, and 23.1 percent of the U.S. population as a whole.
His premise and conclusion, as I read it, is that Affirmative Action has failed because local blacks still are not getting a leg up. Even worse, he blames this on these immigrant blacks and seems to imply that what needs to likely happen is discrimination against these successful immigrant blacks because of their success. Way to miss the clear message this discrepancy in educational success between native and immigrant blacks is showing Clarence. The reason that immigrant blacks are so successful is precisely because they have not been brainwashed by the AA race hucksters! How can Mr. Page fail to see or address the critical issue that our native black population, especially the poorest urban ones where education would be key in providing them a leg out of poverty, has a huge problem with education precisely because of AA. The majority of these kids are told, or shown by example, that education is a wasted of their time since it is rigged in favor of Whitey. So many fall for, or only want, get rich quick schemes, too often involving criminal activity, that lead to exactly the opposite. Socialists & liberals in government, under the auspices of helping out, have rigged the system to encourage and reward the very bad behavior that locks people into poverty- children out of wedlock and before one is done with getting an education coupled with a lack of interest in getting an education - on top of that!
Victim hood, the gospel of the AA movement, is why these kids fail. The successful black immigrants having been spared this cross, do understand the importance of an education, and consequently - and at even a higher level than Asian-Americans and Asian immigrants - take advantage of the system to do so. And yet, rather than pointing out that maybe the problem African-Americans face is a direct result of the victim hood mentality created by AA and the race hucksters, his solution is to separate and punish yet another group for the very failings of AA. Clarence here is some advice. Get rid of Affirmative Action. Tell young blacks - and for that matter every other young person because this is a universal truth - that the key to success is to get educated, avoid making children while you or unmarried or unable to support them, and to not believe you are owed anything.
That is the difference between the majority of the African immigrants & too many of our own African-American population, and why the former is doing well while the later is not. AA doesn’t need to be tweaked; it needs to be done away with. It, like so many programs enacted in haste and based on feelings rather than logic, has caused orders of magnitude more harm than good to the people it was supposed to help. But too many people make a living on reverse racism these days for that truth to apparently be acknowledged. And too many others hold political power precisely because they continue to perpetuate this failed policy. It seems AA helps out everyone but those it is supposed to help.
